HISTORY
The center of the municipality of Tiwi and one of its original barangays, Tigbi was originally called El Pueblo or the Poblacion, the town proper during the Spanish era until the 1900s. In 1960, the Barrio Charter Act R.A. No. 2370 which granted autonomy to all the barrios of the Philippines, was enacted. This act allowed the Poblacion to become a barrio under Cipriano Competente, its first elected barrio lieutenant, until it eventually became a barangay. The official name of the barangay was soon replaced by two mayors, Jose Templado and Oriel Clutario, from Poblacion to Tigbi, the legendary name of the entire municipality. Even today, some older residents of Tiwi refer to the barangay as Poblacion.
