HISTORY
Lourdes was known as a barangay that could only be reached through a long, winding road. Back then, Lourdes was called Matalibong because of the dizziness people experienced after traversing the snake-like path to the barangay. Travelers who had the misfortune of passing through this road would remark hale ako sa matalibong, meaning “I came from the winding road”. However, people from outside the barangay started calling residents from Matalibong, mga Libong-Libong, or “weird people” who became crazy because of the twisting, zigzag path. The residents wanted to change this negative connotation and decided to name their barangay after their patron saint instead, in honor of “Our Lady of Lourdes”. It is one of the geothermal barangays in the municipality.
