Sugod

HISTORY

Sugod was formed in the 1800s from 12 families who came from neighboring barangays and settled in the coastal areas. Unable to grow agricultural crops on the coast, the families moved westward to find ample soil for farming. Unfortunately, these families then encountered a swarm of bees when they were preparing the land. The families finally settled after clearing most of the area of bees and initially formed as a sitio of Naga. In time, more people migrated to the place because of its lush and peaceful environment and eventually formed a barangay. The great swarms of bees that once populated the land gave rise to its current name of Sugod, a Bikolano term for bee. It is one of the geothermal barangays in the municipality.
