HISTORY
Maynonong took its name from a folktale told in the barangay about a wise man who lived in the place long ago. According to the tale, this man was so much wiser than his entire community combined that people from all over took note of his intellect. His fame soon reached far and wide that whenever anyone passed or simply mentioned the barangay he lived in, they would remark, “may dunong diyan”, a phrase that meant “there lives an intelligent man”. Later on, the phrase was shortened to Maydunong until the barangay eventually came to be known simply as Maynonong. It is one of the geothermal barangays in the municipality.
