HISTORY
During the formation of the municipality of Tiwi, a travelling group of families found the place where Cararayan stands today and settled down. They practiced farming to live off the land and soon, the number of families grew into a bustling barangay. The Spanish government saw this newly developed place and chose to appoint a cabeza de barangay, an official head for the barangay. These people were noted to be peace-loving and industrious who always stood together for a good cause. The barangay was then called Karahayan or a “place of goodness.” The name eventually transformed into Cararayan. Cararayan is one of the geothermal barangays in the municipality.
